Bubbly Memories

Dipping my sorrow
Into this well of joy
Feeling your memory
Bubble around me
Like ice cold champagne
Sparking light in the effervescence
Of the love you lived
The cold crystal glass
Trapping the moments
I can’t remember as the ones
I can’t forget break the surface
All those moments living in suspension
Of the reality of your absence
Even as my pain dips into the pleasure
Of every sip of every memory
Tickling my heart and mind
With the intoxication of denial
Of the grief that lingers on my tongue
And burns the back of my throat
Like the first drink of bourbon

Bubbly Memories first appeared in my book of poetry, The Gift of Grief: Poetry (release date August 30, 2024).
